The Scoop on SEO Articles

SEO or search engine optimization is a commonly used marketing technique to help build traffic counts on a given website. Not only is this technique highly effective it is relatively simple to learn and put into action. Though SEO requires a writer to construct specific techniques throughout written content, it is an affordable way to help build a business. Since opening the doors to an online business is sometimes expensive, the best way to spread the word is through content sprinkled throughout the World Wide Web.

One of the simplest ways to detail SEO is that it is a combination of keywords, phrases and their placement. Almost like a mathematical formula for advertising success. The wording must be chosen correctly, placed in appropriate places and finished off by a well written article. Just about any kind or type of writing can be optimized for search engines; the writer just must be familiar with the rules of SEO. Here are a few tips and tricks to remember when writing SEO content:

* Choose keywords based on their 'searched' popularity.
* Ensure that phrases and keywords are used in each paragraph of the content.
* Develop a good SEO placement percentage, most content writers recommend between 3-5% keyword optimization.
* Do not jam the article full of keywords, it will read poorly and appear to be a bad advertisement.
* Prepare a title that is catchy, makes the reader look twice

There are many marketing companies that can help with the technicalities of SEO; however this is a good starting point. SEO can work very well for online companies, but it must be constructed appropriately.

Common Search Engine Optimization Mistakes

Many people make search engine optimization much too complicated. While it is not easy, it is very simple. You need to do some on-page optimization and get some incoming links with high page rank. If you don't adhere to this formula, you will likely fail in your efforts to get your website ranked highly. Some common mistakes that people make when trying to optimize their website is not using latent semantic indexing, engaging in keyword stuffing, getting poor quality incoming links and not updating their website on a regular basis. We will talk about each of these common mistakes below.

a. No LSI: Latent semantic indexing simply involves using keywords related to your main keyword or phrase throughout your website. To discourage keyword stuffing, the search engines begin penalizing (dropping in rank) those websites that use the same keywords over and over. To be more successful, it is important that you use related keywords. For example, if you are targeting the keyword "weight loss," you will want to include keywords such as "diet," "diet plans" "easy weight loss," or "fast weight loss." These types of keywords might be expected to be included in legitimate text about weight loss. Only using the exact same keyword is a huge mistake and can thwart your efforts to successfully move up the search engines.

b. Keyword Stuffing: Keyword stuffing, while it used to be a very popular and effective method to rank high in the search engines, is now a big no-no. If you do a search online, you are likely to see some websites that have gotten away with it, but by and large, unless these sites have a great number of incoming links, they generally will drop in the search engines. Therefore, don't do it. Keyword stuffing also doesn't read well to potential customers. Write your text as naturally as possible. It should flow rather easily. Your readers shouldn't have to figure out why you have the phrase "weight loss in 3 days" written 20 times at the top of your website.

c. Low Quality Incoming Links: The only links that will make a huge difference are those that have high page rank. Having incoming links with no page rank or very low page rank won't be very helpful. It is a good idea to get incoming links from websites with different page ranks but try to get incoming links mostly from sites with high page rank.

d. Not Updating Your Website: The search engines love websites that are constantly being updated. This is why blogs tend to do so well. You should aim to update your website at least once a week. If you have a blog, try to update it at least 3-4 times a week.
